SVT Flashcards
Explain the pathophysiology of SVT
Electrical signals re-enter the atria and by-pass the SAN and travel to the AVN, causing ventricular contraction.
What are the clinical features of SVT?
Main features is elevated HR for a few minutes or several hours
SVT is a narrow or broad-complex tachycardia
Narrow-complex <0.12s
Look at the ECG features of SVT
Narrow complex tachycardia <0.12s
P and T waves are together in one
How to manage a patient in SVT? (Stable)
- Valsalva manoeuvre
- Carotid sinus massage
- IV adenosine
- Electrical cardioversion
What are the adverse signs you should look out for which would suggest unstable SVT which needs to be managed by electrical cardio version?
Shock
Syncope
Myocardial Ischaemia
Heart failure
How do you manage unstable SVT?
Electrical cardio version
