Picornaviridae, Enterovirus clinically indistinguishable from FMD (and other vesicular diseases) extremely resistant maximum incubation period: 28 days
Confirmation of the presence of the
disease:
virus isolation from the pigs or from the
environment
seropositive pigs + characteristic lesions
clinical signs + direct epidemiological
connection with a confirmed outbreak
only seropositive pigs:
resampling and
retesting with an interval of 28 days
if no evidence of the disease, but the pigs
are still seropositive:
killed and destroyed or
slaughtered separately and the meat is
exclusively used on the national market
Protection zone:
minimum radius of 3 km
identification of all holdings having susceptible animals
periodic visits to holdings having susceptible animals, clinical
examination, samples for laboratory examination;
prohibition of the movement and transport of animals of
susceptible species on public or private roads, excluding the
service roads of holdings
pigs may not be removed from a for 21 days after completion of
the preliminary cleaning and disinfection of infected holdings;
after 21 days, authorization may be given to remove pigs:
– to a slaughterhouse within the protection or surveillance zone
– exceptionally to other premises within the protection zone

arrival of the last pigs,
clinical and serological examination: 28 days after the arrival of
the last pigs
