Suvat Equations Flashcards
What do the symbols in motion equations represent?
s = Displacement (m)
u = Initial velocity (m/s)
v = Final velocity (m/s)
a = Acceleration (m/s²)
t = Time (s)
What is the first equation of motion?
v = u + at
What is the second equation of motion?
s = ut + 1/2a * t^2
What is the third equation of motion?
s= (u+v)/2 * t
What is the fourth equation of motion?
v^2 = u^2 + 2as
When can the equations of motion be used?
Only when the motion has uniform acceleration.
How do you determine which equation to use?
Identify the three known variables and the one missing variable you need, then select the equation that includes them.
How can you find acceleration from a velocity-time graph?
The gradient (slope) of the graph gives acceleration.
How can you find displacement from a velocity-time graph?
The area under the graph gives displacement.
