A
- cutting hazel trees at their base mean lots of new shoots grow rapidly which can be harvested.
- allows more light to the forest floor so biodiversity increases
- The trees live for many years rather than being entirely cut down
- A project called “New Leaf” is getting young people involved with coppicing to reduce youth unemployment.

A
- Forest commision have been culling wild boar .
- There are 1500 wild boars which damage habitats
when they root around in the undergrowth - cause a nuisance to visitors and local residents
- They aim to reduce numbers to 400 but they are still continuing to breed as there is enough food for 10,000.

- Forester’s forest is an outreach education programme which raises awareness of the woodland and gets people involved with litter picking and wildlife surveys.
- Bristol Council run the Dean Field Studies Centre which works with local schools on environmental education .

- The Forestry Commission has made cycle and walking trails to stop people damaging the forest floor and ensure mountain bikers don’t destroy sensitive habitats.
