What is Sustainable Development?
Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
What is Sustainability?
The relationship or balance between social, economic and environmental issues.
What is Global Citizenship?
The awareness of the world as a global community and recognition of the rights and responsibilities of citizens within it.
What are food miles?
The distance food travels from the time of its production until it reaches the consumer.
What is a carbon footprint?
The mass of carbon dioxide emitted by any specific activity.
What does carbon neutral mean?
No net release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
What is carbon offsetting?
Compensating for emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere with an equivalent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions elsewhere.
What is wastewater?
Water that has been used in the home, in a business, or as part of an industrial process.
What is the enhanced greenhouse effect?
The enhancement of the natural greenhouse effect through man-made emissions of greenhouse gases, trapping increasing quantities of heat.
What is climate change?
A large-scale, long-term shift in Earth’s weather patterns or average temperatures.
What does ‘Reduce’ mean?
To decrease the amount of waste produced.
What does ‘Reuse’ mean?
To refill or find another use for a product without processing it other than cleaning.
What does ‘Recycle’ mean?
To reprocess materials into new and useful products.
