Surveyor and Surveying Flashcards
1
Q
Definition of surveyor, surveying and surveying line
A
Surveyor: a parallel device used in constructing a dental prosthesis to locate and delineate the contour and relate position of abutment teeth and associate structures.
Surveying: an analysis and comparison of prominence of intra oral of the contour associated with the dental prosthesis
Surveying line: a line produce on a cast by surveyor marking the greatest prominence of contour.

Q
Parts of surveyor
A
- Platforms
- Vertical arm
- Horizontal arm
- Surveying arm
- Locking device
- Surveying instrument
- Cast holder
3
Q
Tools of surveyor
A
- Analyzing rod- to analyse the cast to establish the path of insertion.
- Carbon marker-used for drawing the surveying line around all teeth involved in clasp design.
- Undercut gauges - used to measure the undercut of the cast
McCracken-0.01,0.02,0.03
- Wax knife- used in the late stage of RPD construction to eliminate the undesirable undercut with wax on the cast before frame work is done.

Q
Uses of dental surveyor
A
- For surveying the diagnostic cast
- to determine most desirable path of placement and removal of removal partial denture
- to identify proximal tooth surface that are need to be parallel so they act as a guiding planes during placement and removal
- to measure and locate areas of teeth that may be used for retention
5
Q
Objective sof surveying
A
- To design RPD
- To determine path of insertion of the prosthesis
- To mark the undesirable undercut into which prosthesis should not extend
6
Q
4 factors must be consider before path of insertion
A
- Retentive undercut
- Interference
- Esthetics
- Guiding planes
