Q

What are the 6 principles of flap design?

A
  1. Surgical access - positioning and size
  2. Broad base - blood supply and healing
  3. Avoiding vital structure and healing (mental nerve in 4/5 region)
  4. Incision over sound bone for healing
  5. Full thickness flap - mucosal and periosteal layers together - healing
  6. Intact papillae - healing (poor blood supply = shrinkage and black triangles)
