3 Levels of Asepsis and what they entail?
- Medical: Clean gloves and exams
- Modified: clean gloves and surgically clean/sterile equipment
- Surgical: STRICT use of sterile gloves and equipment
What can sterile things touch?
STERILE CAN ONLY TOUCH STERILE
In a sterile field, what is considered contaminated?
The outer 1 inch border
Why are sterile fields supposed to be limited only for a limited amount of time?
We try to limit their exposure to airborne things and droplets
What do you do if you doubt sterility?
Consider it contaminated
What is sterile consciousness?
Getting into the mindset of knowing there are sterile things and trying to maintain sterility as much as possible
Why do we assess pain and readiness before starting?
So that we do not have to interrupt the sterile procedure and risk contamination
What do we check on a sterile package?
Expiration date and package integrity
What do we have to ensure our work surface is during a sterile procedure?
Aseptically clean and dry
What is a sterile transfer?
Hand off an object from one hand to another to not cross your hands
If a piece of a sterile field falls out of view, what must you do?
Mentally draw a new 1 inch border
What is considered “clean” on a person during a procedure?
Gloves and chest, clean not fully sterile
3 steps of adding a sterile fluid
- Remove bottle cap and place it face up
- “Lip” it (Clean the edge of lip)
- Pour carefully without making contact or any splashing)
How long are reusable liquids good fore after first use?
24hrs
