surgery Flashcards
Most common primary brain malignancy
Glioblastoma
CT/MRI findings with butterfly pattern is indicative of
Glioblastoma
Large volumes of rapidly administered normal saline can cause
non-anion gap hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis
Posterior shoulder dislocations are commonly caused by
- Violent tonic clonic seizures
2. Electrocution Injury
Mirizzi Syndrome
Large gallstone impacted in the cystic duct -> compresses the common hepatic artery.
Cause of black gallstones
Hemolytic disease such as hereditary spherocytosis or SCD
Rule out test(s) for gallstone pancreatitis?
Amylase
Lipase
Fitz-Hugh-Curtis Syndrome
RUQ pain
Hx of recent PID (chlamydia or gonorrhea)
Fever
Violin string adhesions btw liver and diaphragm
Tokyo guidelines
Systemic Inflammation signs
Cholestasis
Leg shorted, abducted, externally rotated. What is the dx?
Femoral neck or intertrochanteric fracture… MC hip fracture in older adults.
Addiction and internal rotation of the hip.
Posterior dislocation (dashboard injury). Note sciatic nerve usually involved.
Pain with abduction and tenderness at the trochanter. Leg length NOT affected
Isolated fracture of the greater trochanter.
Lung nodule >0.8 cm
Requires additional management.
Paroxysmal Sympathetic Hyperactivity
Suspect this in a patient with traumatic brain injury and they freak out (HTN etc) when repositioned or bathing.
Acid base disturbance- sepsis
Primary AGMA (due to Latic acidosis)
