Wood preservative
A
Needs re application after time. Prevents rots, decay and fungal/inset attack

Oil
A
Oil has a similar effect to varnish but slacks into timber rather than sitting on the surface. Needs reapplying

Wood stain
A
Stains permanently colours wood. No protection

Wax
A
Wax rubbed into wood with cloth or wire wool in hangers natural grain. Needs reapplying

Varnish
A
Protects from moisture. Enhances grain, gloss, stain or Matt finish

Paint
A
Paintbrush or roller painted in a wide range of colours. Will often need primer or undercoat to give a smoother finish
