How long should mothers suckle their child for?

What is the responsibility of the father during this time?
responsible for bearing the cost of the mothers food and clothing on a regular basis
‘responsibility of the heir of the child’ (Ayat 233) what does this mean?
If the father dies, the liability of the expenses of suckling lies on who may become an heir if the child dies - it shows that benefits are always tied up with obligations
What does iddah mean?
Waiting period
How long is the iddah?
4 months 10 days - expected to mourn and reflect during this time
What are you not allowed to do during the waiting period?
NOT allowed to marry men or make a FORMAL proposal BUT men can give an indirect hint if they are interested for after the iddah
What is dowry?
When the woman gives money to the husbands side
What is dower/haqq mehr?
The amount of money or gold gifted by the husband to his wife - it is an obligation
When is it obligatory for a man to give a woman mut’ah (a gift) ?
If you divorce a woman an a mehr has NOT been set and you have NOT touched then it is obligatory to give mut’ah according to his means, it should not be less then one set of a full dress according to Abdullah ibn Abbas
What is the ruling if you have SET a mehr but haven’t touched and have divorced?
The husband should give half of the agreed mehr to the woman, but if she forgives it, he can keep the half.
What is the ruling if you have ALREADY given the mehr to the woman, but you have not touched and have divorced?
The man is entitled to ask for half of it back, but it is closer to righteousness that he forgives it
Why did Allah say to ‘take care of your prayers, especially the middle one’?
Asr was a time when people are normally busy, it is vulnerable to neglect, therefore taking care of this prayer is emphasized.
فَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ فَرِجَالًا أَوْ رُكْبَانًۭا ۖ فَإِذَآ أَمِنتُمْ فَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ كَمَا عَلَّمَكُم مَّا لَمْ تَكُونُوا۟ تَعْلَمُونَ ٢٣٩
Referring to this ayat, what does fear mean in this context?
refers to the state of war, if you cannot perform salat properly then he can perform it while standing or riding an animal
What should a husband do if he passes away and leaves a wife behind?
Should make a will for her, and to be maintained for 1 year without being expelled
Why was the ruling of making a will and provisions for a year for the wife obligatory?
It was made at the time when the share of a wife and inheritance of a husband was not determined or the period of iddah
later it was revealed the iddah was 4 months and 10 days, and her fixed share was revealed in Surah Nisa, therefore such a ruling is no more applicable
٢٤٠ وَلِلْمُطَلَّقَـٰتِ مَتَـٰعٌۢ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ۖ حَقًّا عَلَى ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ ٢٤١
According to the ayah, what does ‘benefit’ mean in this context?
benefit is used in general terms
it includes
- maintenance during iddah
- haqq mehr (if not paid before)
- also includes the ‘gift’ mentioned in ayah 236
Why should muslims not escape jihad?
since the main fear is death, Allah explains that he gives life and death to who he wills, so whoever tries to escape it, he may still die due to Allah’s will and decree, therefore one should not escape jihad out of fear of death
Who were the people that tried to escape Jihad, and their death?
Some reports say that they were a city struck by plague, so they left, but when they reached open land all of them died together by Allah’s command. Then Hizqil (as) passed by them and prayed for their life, so Allah brought them back to life
What does the expression ‘give Allah a good loan’ mean ?
Its a metaphor, because everything belongs to Allah, and he does not need any loan
How does Jihad require finance?
it prompts Muslims on spending their wealth for this cause, used to hint that war is financed by raising loans for the people for which they expect some monetary return
What are the virtues of jihad?
It points out that financing jihad is a loan too, but its return is much more attractive, because it will be multiplied, with an eternal and blissful life in Jannah.
