A
Placing of Malecot’s catheter into the bladder via a suprapubic region by open method, or percutaneously under guidance using Foley’s catheter.
It is a temporary opening through the abdominal wall into the bladder

WHAT IS THE PREREQUISITE FOR A SUPRAPUBIC CYSTOSTOMY?
A
Bladder must be full & is confirmed by dullness below umbilicus or by ultrasound

WHAT ARE THE INDICATIONS FOR A SUPRAPUBIC CYSTOSTOMY?
A
i) Retention of urine when transurethral catheterization has failed
ii) Rupture of the urethra
iii) Urethral cutaneous fistula
iv) Per urethral abscess
v) Extravasations of urine
vi) Chronic retention in neurogenic bladder
