Brigham Young Study 2010 - big ideas?

A

Looked at QUANTITY of social relationships - how many relationships can someone claim they are active in?

The risks for being in lower quartile is same as 15 cigs a day, being alcoholic, not exercising, and twice as bad as obesity. THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT OUR CONNECTIVITY WITH HUMAN BEINGS THAT IMPACTS HEALTH!

A

Put monkey in cage, then rattled the cage. Measured the stress hormones (cortisol and adrenaline) after. Then they took that same monkey and put a second control monkey in the cage - then shook the cage. The first monkey showed half the level of stress hormones were present - because of the presence of another monkey in the cage.
