Disease
Abnormal condition affecting an organism. Could be due to infection, degeneration of tissue, injury/trauma, toxic expose, development of cancer
Illness
Refers to the feelings that might come w having a disease. Feelings like pain, fatigue, weakness, discomfort, distress, confusion etc. The reason people seek healthcare and the way people measure their success with treatment.
Sickness
Is a social identity. It is poor health or health problems of an individual. Usually applied if people miss work / cannot function normally in society (sick-leave) sick role
Somatoform disease
Physical symptoms, but no organic cause that can be detected through medical examination
Hypochondria
Someone thinks that he has a disease when he does not.
Disability
Is an umbrella term for impairment, activity limitations and participation restrictions
Impairment
Problem in body function or structure
Activity limitation
Difficulty encountered by an individual in executing a task or action
Particitpation restriction
A problem experienced by an individual in involvement in life situations.

Informational support
Communication providing useful or needed information
Tangible support
Any physical assistance provided by others, making a meal og driving.
Family support
- Lessen the chance that one will become sick or die from heart disease
- People w/o strong social support are 50% more likely to die from illness than those who had such support
- Important for those w chronic disease
- Will help patient to adhere to medical regimen
