Data shows that Pilots have a lack of working knowledge using both methods. In order to have a shared mental model and provide proper VVMI as PM, Pilots should be familiar with both methods. You’ll have the opportunity to practice 2L and 3L during CQ.

As discussed in the Resource Guide Overview, after completing the LOE you’ll be flying a LOT event from HDN to DEN. It will be snowing in Hayden, and you will be expected to be proficient with deicing procedures and use of the HOT APP to calculate a holdover time. HDN weather is included below. To help with your preparation, we’ve included some of the most common deicing errors below and their associated references.

Flight Crews are not consistently performing a Pre-Takeoff Flight Deck Check when required by the Deice/Anti-Ice Procedures Card/AOM. Ref. AOM 15.1.13.1.
Flight Crews are not regularly performing an Engine Run-Up as required per the AOM. Ref AOM 15.1.14.2.
Flight Crews are not consistently providing the required information from the Deice/Anti-Ice Procedures Card/AOM to the Iceman. Ref. AOM 15.1.10.1 Figure 15.7.
Ground and Flight Operations Crews are consistently misinterpreting the Deicing-Only and One-Step procedures. Ref. AOM 15.1.5.
