What is supplemental jurisdiction?

A

A form of SMJ. But difference is that supplemental jurisdiction gets CLAIMS into federal court, not cases.

No. Court must have SMJ over every single claim in the case.

How does claim get in under supplemental jurisdiction?

A

Claim must share common nucleus of operative fact with the claim that satisfies SMJ.

Always met when claim arises from same transaction or occurrence.

What is the limitation on supplemental jurisdiction?

A

Cannot be used in diversity cases and asserted by P.

(Exception: multiple Ps and one does not meet the amount in controversy)
