What are the characteristics of an effective leader? (Brewer)
An effective leader desires responsibility and goal attainment, is persistent, dominant, intelligent, self-confident, socially competent, and the ability to withstand stress.
What is goal setting? (Brewer)
Goalseting is a process whereby leaders specify leaders specify a particular target level or pattern of performance for subordinates. Goal setting prioritizes activities of individuals.

Competent, inspiring, forward thinking and honest.

What is the “Window and the mirror theory”? (Collins)
Level % leaders, inherently humble, look out the window to apportion credit-even undue credit- to factors outside themselves. If they can’t find a specifice person or event they credit good luck. At the same time, they look in the mirror to assign responsibility, never citing bad luck or external factors when things go poorly.
What is employee commitment?
Employee commitment is the “binding” of an individual to a course of action within the workplace.

Perceived fairness in the distribution of rewards and resources.
What is procedural justice?
Perceived fairness in the way decisions are made about the allocation of valued rewards and resources.

Perception of fairness in the way people are treated in the decision-making process and allocation of rewards and resources.

1) Use a team for work that is better done by individuals.
2) Call the work unit a team but manage it as individuals.
