A

A

the Iron Curtain speech which was given by Winston Churchill which stressed that Britain and the United States needed to act as the guardians for peace and stability against the menace of Soviet Communism by forming an “iron curtain”

this led to the long telegram which was an 8k long telegram which prompted US enquiries about Soviet behaviour especially with their refusal to join the World Bank. – written by George Kennan

Led to the Truman Doctrine which was a speech to the US Congress declaring economic and military aid in the form of martial aid to the governments of countries threatened by the expansion of Communism – such as Greece and Turkey.

A

Cuba allied with the USSR and this caused the Cuban Missile Crisis – this was where they were the USSR setup ballistic missiles, this was due to Krushchev promising that he would help Cuba out and had assumed that the US wouldn’t do anything to stop them from shipping small to medium sized ballistic missiles to Cuba to build launching sites, would be able to hit significant amounts of eastern US, U2 spy planes had seen this and the soviets knew of such as they had spotted them.

A

a hotline being established which eventually led to a limited test ban treaty (for nuclear weapons.) – hotline was to prevent things such as the CMC from happening again as it almost trigged MAD (mutually assured destruction) and ended life via nuclear war.
