Witches are shown to be capable of affecting the weather and creating spells

The witches mislead Macbeth with their prophecies

“Come you spirits”. She commands the spirits suggesting her power or the power she believes to have over evil forces but this irony because the evil forces have control over her.

Ominous, cold, raining, storms. Foreshadowing future events to not be good.

To make macbeth feel guilty and makes him look like he has gone crazy worrying about ghosts.
“Fair is foul and foul is fair”
The witches are warning the audience that what may be seen as good might be bad as well, and vice versa
