Superheated Steam Flashcards
What is the process to create superheated steam?
- Place water in a flask. 2. Heat it. 3. Use a throttle (pressure release valve). 4. Evaporate all liquid water. 5. Keep heating. 6. Steam gains more energy and becomes superheated.
What is superheated steam?
Steam that has had all its liquid evaporated and is heated further, gaining more energy without increasing pressure.
What is the critical point in thermodynamics?
The last point at which liquid and vapor can exist together.
What is a supercritical fluid?
A state of matter at higher temperature and pressure than the critical point, where it is neither a distinct liquid nor vapor but behaves like both.
What is the formula to calculate entropy (s) of wet steam using dryness fraction (x)?
s = x·s_g + (1 − x)·s_f, where:
- s = specific entropy of the wet mixture
- x = dryness fraction (quality)
- s_g = entropy of saturated vapor
- s_f = entropy of saturated liquid
