superficial thrombophlebitis causes
prolonged IV, varicose veins, polycythemia, buerger’s disease, recurrent migrating thrombophlebitis due to visceral malignancy
tx of superficial thrombophlebitis
NSAIDs, compression stockings, bed rest
superficial vein thrombosis main vein affected, investigation, tx?
mainly affects LSV
do duplex
tx: treat like DVT with anticoagulation (heparin)
or high ligation of LSV at SFJ especially if thrombus extends within 10cm of the SFJ
describe neuropathic, venous, and arterial ulcers
neuropathic: located over malleoli, under metatarsal heads, heels, over toe joints. lack of pain. hypertrophic callus
venous: located over medial malleolus. with surrounding black discoloration from hemosiderosis.
arterial: located on heels, malleoli, tip of toes. ABSENT foot pulses
