Q

Torticollis

A

2 type: 1. Fibromatosis - fibrous tissue accumulates in the muscle; most common in neonates

  1. muscular torticollis = “wry neck;” can be congenital - infants; birth trauma - infants; muscular or nerve injury

Q

Ansa Cervicalis

A

a loop of nerves from the cervical plexus that carry somatomotor innervation to most of the infrahyoid (below the hyoid) muscle in the neck

Veins in the neck

A
21
Q

Arteries in the neck (lateral view) labeled

A

know all arterial branches - note that the inferior thyroid is a branch of the thryocervical trunk.

22
Q

Veins in the neck (lateral view) labeled

A
23
Q

what vein is used in a venous puncture? (for chemo, etc)

A

subclavian v. (there is also an internal jugular puncture)

24
Q

extrinsic muscles of hyoid overlaying larynx (labeled)

A

for order think: sterno, omo, thryo

25
Q

Suprahyoid muscles and inn. and functions

A

mylohyoid: n. to myohyoid; elevate hyoid and tongue
geniohyoid: C1; shorten mouth flood
digastrics: mandibular branch and facial n; depress mandible, steady hyoid

26
Q

infrahyoid muscles - inn. and function

A

sternohyoid and omohyoid: ansa cervicalis; depress and steady hyoid

sternothyroid: ansa cervicalis; depress hyoid and larynx
thryohyoid: C1; depress hyoid and elevate larynx

27
Q

extrinsix muscles of larynx (labeled) - know well

A
28
Q

Suprahyoid muscles (labeled) - could see image on test

A
29
Q

Anterior vertebral muscles

A

longus colli: flex neck, rotate opposite unilaterally

longus capitus, rectus capitis anterior, and anterior scalene: all 3 flex the neck

30
Q

lateral vertebral muscles

A

rectus capitus lateralis: flex and stabilze head

splenius capitis: laterally flex and rotate head to same side, bilaterally extend head

middle and posterior scalenes: flex neck laterally, elevate 2nd rib d

31
