Superficial Face Flashcards
Primordial Stomodeum
4th-8th week facial structures develop around this structure-FUTURE MOUTH
Oropharyngeal Membrane
covered on outside by ectoderm and inside by endoderm….Separates forgut from amniotic cavity
-Ruptures ~4th week allowing amniotic fluid to pass into the pharynx
Five Prominences-3 of which give rise to face
- Single Frontonasal prominence
- Paired Maxillary prominence
- Paired Mandibular prominence
Single Frontonasal Prominence
surrounds ventrolateral of forebrain
- frontal part=forehead
- nasal part=upper part of stomedium and nose
Maxillary Prominence
made by NEURAL CREST CELLS…migrate from neural fold into maxillary prominence
- lateral boundary of stomedium
- give rise to maxilla and palatine shelves
Mandibular Prominence
made by migrationof neural crest cells
- caudal boundary of stomedium
- mandible and lower lip
Cleft Lip
Facial structures derived from the pharyngeal arches
-First arch and Second Arch
First Arch
-Muscles of mastication -Mylohyoid m
-Anterior belly digastric -tensor tympani
-tensor veli palatini
TRIGEMINAL NERVE IS THE NERVE of 1st arch
Second Arch
-Muscles of facial expression -stylohyoid
-posterior belly of digastric -hyoid bone
FACIAL NERVE IS THE NERVE of 2nd arch
Supraorbital Nerve
Opthalmic division of CN V
-lateral forhead and upper eyelid
Supratrochlear Nerve
Opthalmic division of CN V
-medial forehead and upper eyelid
Infratrochlear Nerve
Opthalmic division of CN V
-medial part of eye and root of nose
Infraorbital Nerve
Maxillary division of CN V
- upper lip, lower eyelid, part of zygomatic and nose
- skin to lower eyelid, cheek, lateral nose and upper lip and temporal fossa
Mental Nerve
Mandibular Division of CN V
-skin of chin and lower lip
Buccal Nerve
Mandibular Division of CN V
-oral mucosa of cheek
