superficial back muscles Flashcards
what are the superficial back muscles
trapezius
rhomboid major and minor
levator scapulae
latissimus dorsi
origin of trapezius
vertebral column (C7-T12) superior nuchal line external occipital protuberance
insertion of trapezius
Lateral 1/3rd of clavicle, Acromion and Spine of Scapula
movement of trapezius
Assists rotation of the scapula during abduction of humerus above horizontal; Upper fibres elevate, middle fibres adduct, lower fibres depress scapula.
innervation of trapezius
accessory nerve (motor) cervical spinal nerves C3 and C4 (motor and sensation)
blood supply of trapezius
superficial branch of transverse cervical artery, acromial branch of the suprascapular artery, dorsal branches of posterior intercostal arteries
origin of rhomboid major
spinous processes (T2-T5), supraspinous ligament
insertion of rhomboid major
medical border of scapula between spine and inferior angle of scapula
movement of rhomboid major and minor
work with each other to retract and elevate scapula
innervation of rhomboid minor and major
dorsal scapular nerve
blood supply of rhomboid major and minor
dorsal scapular artery
origin of rhomboid minor
spinous processes (C7-T1), inferior border of nuchal ligament, intervening supraspinous ligaments
insertion of rhomboid minor
medial border of scapula at level of scapular spine
innervation of latissimus dorsi
thoracodorsal nerve
origin of latissimus dorsi
Spinous processes of T7 to T12, 9th to 12th ribs, the lumbar and sacral vertebrae (via the thoracolumbar fascia), and the posterior third of the external lip of the iliac crest
