Superfical and Intermediate Intrinsic Back Muscles Flashcards
Where does the splenius capitis insert?
The splenius capitis inserts on the mastoid process of temporal bone superolaterally and lateral third of nuchal line of occipital bone
What is the origin of the splenius muscle?
It originates on the nuchal ligament and spinous processes of C7-T6
Where does the splenius cervicis insert?
The splenius cervicis inserts on the tubercles of transverse processes of C1-C3 or C4 vertebrae.
What is the nerve supply of the splenius muscle?
The posterior rami of spinal nerves.
What is the action of the splenius alone?
It laterally flexes the neck and rotates head to side of active muscles.
What is the action of the splenius muscles when acting together?
They extend head and neck.
Where does the iliocostalis originate?
It originates on broad tendon from posterior part of iliac crest, posterior surface of sacrum, sacro-iliac ligaments, sacral and inferior lumbar spinous processes, and supraspinous ligament.
Where does the iliocostalis (lumborum, thoracis, and cervicis) insert?
It inserts on superior to angles of lower ribs and cervical transverse processes.
Where does iliocostalis receive innervation?
Posterior rami of dorsal nerves
What is action of iliocostalis when acting bilaterally?
Extend vertebral column and head as back is flexed, control movement by gradually lengthening their fibers
What is action of iliocostalis when acting unilaterally?
Laterally flex vertebral column
Where does longissimus originate?
It originates on broad tendon from posterior part of iliac crest, posterior surface of sacrum, sacro-iliac ligaments, sacral and inferior lumbar spinous processes, and supraspinous ligament.
Where does longissimus (thoracis
, cervicis, and capitis) insert?ttttu Hugh
It inserts to ribs between tubercles and angles to transverse processes in thoracic and cervical regions and to mastoid processl
What is the nerve supply of longissimus?
Posterior rami of spinal nerves
Where does spinalis originate?
It originates on broad tendon from posterior part of iliac crest, posterior surface of sacrum, sacro-iliac ligaments, sacral and inferior lumbar spinous processes, and supraspinous ligament.
