Toxin mediated strep and staph dz
Necrotizing fasciitis, recalcitrant erythematous desquamating disorder, Scarlet fever, SSSS, strep/staph toxic shock, Possible others include atopic derm/guttate psoriasis/Kawasakii
Toxic shock syndrome
Staph TSS can be associated with any staph infection (blood cx usually negative). Strep TSS usually associated with severe necrotizing skin infxn (blood cultures often positive)
Skin findings in toxic shock syndrome
Can look like Kawasakii or Scarlet fever, diffuse scarlatiniform erythroderms, bulbar conjunctiva hyperemia, and palmar edema. Desquamation of the tips of fingers and toes occurs in 1-2 weeks after onset
Tx of Toxic Shock symdrome
Clindamycin inhibits toxin production
