Define Studying/Study
the process of dedicating one’s senses to receiving, processing, assimilating and interpreting information. It involves paying wrapped attention to to a study material.
why do we study
To earn a degree
# To develop skills
# to acquire knowledge
Define Study Skills
these are those skills that are required to receive, process, assimilate and interpret
information; those skills that help us carry out our work effectively.
list 5 study skills
Reading
# listening
#Use or keywords
#use of visual imagery
#Rehearsal/Memorization
what are 3 needs of study skills
It helps to provide awareness of the different options to employ when studying
# it helps to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of each skill
# It helps in developing skills for studying
What does it mean to be organized?
It involves categorizing and managing one’s resources in a way that ensures efficiency in carrying out tasks
why is it important to be organized?
It enables easy identification of important elements
# It reduces stress and frustration
#It helps to improve productivity
Define Reading Strategies
A term used to describe the planned and explicit actions taken by students to translate their print to meaning. they are operations carried out by students/readers to ensure efficiency when reading
Identify some Reading Strategies
Preview, Take notes, identify the main points and summarize, review, Ask questions
Need for good reading strategies
Improves the chances of success
# It builds the capabilities of the reader
# It enables the reader to be more productive
define Note Taking
The practice of writing down pieces of information. it also involves recording key points of information being passed out.
List out some effective note taking strategies
Take notes regularly
# Always seek clarification if there is missed information
# Use short-hand where possible to save time
importance of note taking
compliments your listening efforts
# It enables you to identify what the lecturer thinks is important
#Allows you to test your understanding of the material
# Enables you to remember the material better
# Provides you with a study guide which will be useful during your private study
Define Study Approaches
Study approaches are methods employed by students/readers based on their preferences, in order to actualize their study goals and objectives.
What is individual study approach?
This is a study approach which involves only one person, also known as self study. here there are no other persons around who are working together with the same purpose and schedule
list 3 features of individual study
There is less or no distraction
# Requirements are less
#It is easier to be organized and manage oneself
What is Group Study?
Group study is the type of study that involves only more than one person, also known as collaborative study
list 3 features of collaborative study
Requirements are more
#distractions are more likely to occur
#can create positive learning experiences
define a number

list 5 types of numbers
positive, negative, whole, complex, real, imaginary, integers, fractions, natural, rational, irrational, ratios, decimals, prime,
define a table
An object which comprises of rows, columns and cells for holding and organizing information
list and explain the components of a table
Column: a vertical object in a table which holds several values. it goes from top to bottom, holding similar data for different entities in a table
#row: A row is a horizontal object in a table which holds several values. It goes from left to right, holding different data for the same entity in a table
#Cell: A row is the the intersection between a column and row. It is the point where a column intersects a row.
How do you determine the size of a table?
The size of a table is determined by multiplying the number of columns with the number of rows in that table, without explicitly writing out the numerical value of the multiplication. eg a table with Y rows and A columns has a size AxY read “A by Y”
What are some benefits of working with tables?
They organize similar information together
#they can store large amounts of info. together
#Helps with easy identification of elements
