Summer Vocab Flashcards
Memory
Is the persistent learning of information that has been encoded/stored and can be retrieved
Recall def and ex
Is the retrieving of information that isn’t currently in your conscious awareness, but wad learned at an earlier time
Ex. Fill in a blank question on a test
Recognition def and ex
Is the identification of items that were previously learned
Ex multiple choice questions
Relearning ex and def
It’s when you learned something a second or later time but faster (@ a quicker pace)
Ex. When you study for your finals
Engaging in a language used in early childhood
Reviewing your notes for a test
Overlearning ex and def
It’s when you repeat the material. This increases retention, especially when the practice is distributed over time
Ex. Overlearning course material even after you know it
Encoding def and ex
How many times are there. What are they?
The process of getting information into the memory system.
Ex. Extracting the meaning from a text
2;acoustic and visual
Storage def, ex
The process of retaining encoded information over time
Ex. You remembered something for more than 5 years & keep on remembering
Retrieval def and ex
The process of getting information out of the memory system
Ex. You learned something a long time ago, and you can’t remember it
Parallel processing def
Processing many aspects of a problem simultaneously is the brain’s natural mode of information processing for many functions.
Sensory Memory def
The immediate (very brief) recording of sensory information in the memory system (the to be remembered information)
Short term memory def and ex
The information encoded through rehearsal. A type of memory that holds a few things
Ex. Dory
