Who was Thomas Becket
The Archbishop of Canterbury at the time of Henry the second
Why did they fall out
Because Thomas becket wouldn’t get rid of the priests court
What happened to thomas
He was killed because Henry said who will rid me of this turbulent priest
Why was king John an unpopular king
He lost a lot of land in France, meaning he earns the name lackland and soft sword. He also raised taxes because the war cost so much
What did the lords do
They demanded that the Magna Carta was made
What was the Magna Carta?
It was a series of rules that stopped John from making taxes so high. It was basically the start of parliament
How did the Black Death come to England.
It came from trade ships

The peasants

People weren’t very hygienic
How did it effect the peasants
More than half of them died, so the ones left could ask for higher wages.
What was the statute of labourers
The statute of labourers was a law passed which stopped the peasants from asking for higher wages. Any who did so were branded with a red hot iron

John ball, the statute of labourers, the higher taxes (poll taxes) and the Black Death

The change from Catholic to protestant in the English church

He started the protestant church
Why did Henry the eighth make the church protestant
So he could divorce from Catherine of Aragon
What did Elizabeth the first do to make the church a mix between the two types of Christian church
She mixed the two churches
Why did the Spanish Armada fail
Because of the bad planning from phillip the second of Spain e.g putting in the wrong cannonballs in the ships and the Spanish ships were a lot worse than the English ships. Also, the duke of Parmas troops weren’t ready, so they couldn’t set off when they wanted to and also if they had set off, the English couldn’t have put the fire ships into them

To symbolise how large a city was because of the size of the cathedral
