Summative 10/10/24 Flashcards
What is c-m-r-rc method
Explain it
How is the c-m-r-rc method used to estimate population size
Same as def on method and Lincoln index
Limitations and assumptions of c-m-r-rc method
Limits- organisms could wipe off mark or lose it. Also there could be births or deaths at any time.
Assumptions- no one got harmed no one was born and everyone had enough time to mix within population
Density dependent factors with examples
They tend to be biotic and the size of the population is influenced by the population density. Depends on how many organisms are in the ecosystem
Ex- competition predation etc
Density independent factors with examples
They tend to be abiotic and the size of the population doesn’t depend on the population density. Event will affect all organisms
Ex- volcanic eruption fire drought etc
Biotic factor
Living thing
Ex- food animals bacteria
Abiotic factor
Non living thing
Ex- water temp sunlight
Species
A class of things with same name
Population
A group of individual organisms of the same species living in a given area.
Community
A group of different/ wide range of organisms living in the same place
Ecosystem
A community of living organisms interacting with each other and their non living physical environment within a specific area.
What is carrying capacity and how does it affect population size.
Explain it
Parasitism
Parasite lives in or on a host
1 benefits the other is harmed
Ex- tapeworm in a pigs gut
Herbivory
Herbivore eats part of a plant
1 benefit other is harmed
Ex- deer eating grass
Mutualism
Both benefit
Ex- flowering plants and their insect pollinators
