risk factors of suicide
A
- previous mental illness (present in 90% of adolescents who completed suicide)
- previous suicide attempt
- self harm behaviour (although may or may not be associated with suicidal intent)
- impulsivity (more likely to use more lethal menas to attempt suicide)
- precipitating factos
stressors (rejection, inadequacy, humiliation, loss)
examples include breakups, conflict with family, bullying, impending academic disappointment, disclosure of non-hetero or gender identity issues
Previous sexual.physical abuse - family factors
family conflict, poor child-parent interaction, also includes family history of suicide - lack of social support
need a follow up plan for patient to access support if feeling suicidal

- ideation (passive or active, frequency of thoughts, intensity of thoughts, current coping strategies, future orientation)
- intent
assess whether htey want to die now, reasons for living - plan
method
whether impulsive or planned
lethalness
anticipated outcome for the patient
steps taken to decrease liklihood of being discovered
feelings of anxiety or regret post attempt that lead to help seeking
