  • male sex (hazard ratio (HR) approximately 2.0)
  • history of deliberate self-harm or prior suicide attempt
  • FHx of suicide
  • alcohol or drug misuse
  • history of mental illness (depression, schizophrenia)
  • history of chronic disease
  • advancing age or young age (<30)
  • unemployment or social isolation/living alone
  • being unmarried, divorced or widowed
  • recently started on antidepressants
  • anxiety, agitation, panic attacks
