Q

Disturbances that might cause ecological succession are

Q

Primary succession is going to take longer than secondary succession

A

because the soil needs to occur, needs to be built up in those areas of bare rock before the rest of the succession can take place.

Q

cause of secondary secession

A

Human and natural influences both &One of the major causes of secondary succession is wildfires. and Clear-cutting and Introduced species that do not belong to the ecosystem

Q

In marine succession, there’s a very well-studied phenomenon called a whale fall community.

A

A whale fall community occurs when a whale dies and falls to the ocean floor. Think about a whale. It’s a huge animal. All kinds of energy has been vested into that whale to grow
to its size. When it dies, that energy is now available for other species to utilize. Scavengers will come first and feed on the carcass.

Q

What is biodiversity and why is it important?

A

This is really important, because different species support each other in an ecosystem, and this maintains a healthy ecosystem.

15
Q

genetic diversity

A

is the changes in the DNA, the different mutations that the different individuals in the species carry. In fact, having lots of genetic diversity encourages the health of species.

Q

species diversity

A

is the variety of different species in a certain area. This is really important, because different species support each other in an ecosystem, and this maintains a healthy ecosystem.]

17
Q

Threats to biodiversity

A

as habitat loss or fragmentation &Another major issue we have is pollution& pocking

18
Q

losing genetic diversity,

A

animals will also have fewer mates to choose from and the advantages of sexual reproduction will be gone. Species also can be susceptible to diseases. If all of the genetics of a particular creature are the same and a disease comes along, all of those creatures will be wiped out. But if some creatures carry a resistance to that disease, many individuals will die, but a few will live on to be the parents of the rest of the species.
