Subtask: Hot Spots – Data Driven Flashcards

1
Q

(MEL QUESTION) The forward cargo door Position Indication is deferred. What does the bold (T) symbol communicate?

A

 Tracking or Time restriction
 Repair Interval Category A – one day
 Procedures that must be performed, tested…prior to flight or at
specified interval. (MEL USER GUIDE)

Q

(MEL QUESTION) What does the bold (L) - (Log Entry) symbol communicate?

A

 The MEL requires a repetitive maintenance action (T) by the flight
crew and must be accompanied by an associated log book (EAML)
entry each time.
 A call to Maintenance Control is required. (MEL USER GUIDE)

Q

(MEL QUESTION) For a forward cargo door sensor failure MEL, what EICAS message might be
displayed? Could there be associated Aural and or Master Warnings?

A

 DOOR CRG FWD OPEN,
 Yes – there would be associated Aural and Master Warnings (AOM
VOL 2 CH 14)

Q

(MEL QUESTION) Would this Warning (DOOR CRG FWD OPEN) be inhibited on takeoff?

A

 Yes, K3 INHIBITION code (takeoff) (AOM VOL 2 CH 14)

Q

(MEL QUESTION) With this MEL applied properly for a Forward Cargo Door Indication, if a DOOR CRG FWD OPEN populates after takeoff, what would be the
appropriate action.

A

 Mitigation strategies should have been employed as a part of the
MEL review and operational procedures contained therein. No crew
action beyond confirmation of the EICAS message and alarm
cancelation is required – this is a nuisance message from a faulty
sensor

Q

Does the above mentioned MEL effect pressurization?

A

 No, this is just an indication issue, the door has been confirmed
closed and fully operational as part of the procedure.

Q

Describe what normal system pressurization looks like.

A

 EICAS indication lower right hand corner – Check ALT, RATE, and Δ P.
o ALT (EICAS not FMA) – Cabin altitude is lower than airplanes
altitude and remains below 8000’.
o RATE – cabin altitude is increasing at a rate less than or equal
to normal system “internal range” of +750 ft/min.
o ΔP - approaching 7.8 to 8.4, increasing with time and/or
altitude (AOM VOL 2 CH 14)

Q

If the above EICAS message populated (DOOR CRG FWD OPEN), and the Cargo Door Sensor was not Deferred, how would you determine the answer to the QRH’s first question – NORMAL PRESSURIZATION, Yes or No?

A

 EICAS indication lower right hand corner – Check ALT, RATE, and Δ P.
o ALT (EICAS not FMA) – Cabin altitude is approaching or
matches airplanes altitude.
o RATE – cabin altitude is increasing (pressure decreasing) at a
rate greater than the normal system “internal range” of +750
ft/min.
o ΔP - approaching zero (no pressure differential between
outside and inside) (AOM VOL 2 CH 14)

Q

NORMAL PRESSURIZATION – If the answer is No, the QRH requires that the Dump button be pressed, what does this do?

A

 Provides rapid cabin depressurization, by opening the outflow valve
and commanding the packs and recirculation fans to off. (AOM VOL
2 CH 14)

Q

If a DOOR CRG FWD OPEN EICAS Warning message populated after takeoff (remember this is inhibited on the takeoff roll), and the door sensor is not deferred, does this indicate the airplane will not pressurize?

A

 If the door is actually open, the airplane will not pressurize, the QRH
will help the pilot determine its status. (QRH)

Q

HT MEL 52-70-0 (CARGO DOOR SENSOR) – Describe what could happen if a crew failed to read the MEL NOTE(s) and took off with this deferral, then incorrectly answered the QRH NORMAL PRESSURIZATION question.

A

 In this example the sensor is deferred and the warning message
should be anticipated. However, if the crew did not read the note,
they would complete the QRH procedure. An incorrect answer of
NO equals pressing the DUMP button - “rapid cabin
depressurization”. The rapid depressurization can lead to injury
