Subtalar joint Flashcards
Subtalar joint
synovial joint modified saddle/plane joint
concave oval facet on the inferior body of the talus to the corresponding oval facet on the calcaneus
thin loose capsule surrounds the joint attaching to the margins of the articular surface lined by synovial membrane
strengthened by the medial posterior and lateral talocalcanean ligaments
Midtarsal Joint
combined talocalcaneousnavicular and calcaneocuboid joints
irregular joint line
talocalcaneousnavicular joint
synovial ball and socket joint
rounded convex head of the talus
anterior part of socket is concave navicular surface
posterior part is formed by concave sustentaculum tali and surface of calcaneus
calcaneo-cuboid joint
synovial plane/saddle joint
anterior surface of calcaneus to posterior cuboid
inversion
foot is turned inwards raising towards the medial border so the sole of the foot faces medially
combination of adduction and supination of the foot usually accompanied by plantar flexion
eversion
foot is turned outwards raising towards the lateral border so the sole of the foot faces laterally
combination of abduction and pronation of the foot usually accompanied by dorsifexion
