Define methadone ( dolophine) substitution

A

Oral opioid agonist that replaces the opioid to which the client is addicted to. This will prevent abstinence syndrome and remove the need for the pt. to obtain illegal substance. Used for withdrawal and long term maintenance. Dependa ce will be transferred from the opioid to the methadone.
