process of getting detailed information about jobs
Job description
a list of the tasks, duties, and responsibilities that a job entails
Job extension
(subset of “job enlargement”) enlarging jobs by combining small simple jobs to for a job with a larger array of tasks
Job rotation
(subset of “job enlargement”) moves employees among several jobs
Job enrichment
empowering workers by giving them more power to make decisions
ergonomics
how people’s job effects their physical health. ex: in chain typing all day, lifting heavy objects
trend analysis
constructing and applying statistical models that predict labor demand for the next year, given relatively objective statistics from previous year. statistics in this are called “leading indicators”.
transitional matrix
chart that lists job categories held in one period and shows proportion of employees of each of those categories in a future period
Job specification
looks at the qualities or requirements the person performing the job must possess
