Benefit
A helpful or good effect.
Eg. The discovery of oil brought many benefits to the town.
Concept
Principle or idea.
Eg. It is very difficult to define the concept of beauty.
Consist
Comprised or made up of.
Eg. America consists of fifty states.
Constitute
To form or make up Sth.
Women constitute about 10% of Parliament. Men make up the remaining 90%.
Context
The situation within which sth exists or happens, and that can help explain it.
Eg. It is important to see all the fighting and bloodshed in his plays in historical context.
Create
To make Sth new, especially to invent Sth.
Eg. The Bible says that God created the world.
Data
Information, especially facts or numbers.
Eg. The data was collected by various researchers.
Definition, to define
To say what the meaning of Sth, especially a word, is.
Eg. In this dictionary ‘reality’ is defined as ‘the state of things as they are, rather than as they are imagined to be’.
Derive
To get Sth from Sth else.
Eg. The institute derives most of its money from foreign investments. It gets only small amount of money from domestic investments.
Distribution, to distribute
To give Sth out to several people, or to spread or supply Sth.
Eg. The books will be distributed free to local schools. They are given out for free because schools do not have much money to spend.
Economic, economy
The system of trade and industry by which the wealth of a country is made and used.
Eg. Tourism contributes millions of pounds to the country’ economy. It has helped prevent the country from going to recession.
Environment
The air, water and land in or on which people, animals and plants live.
Eg. Certain chemicals have been banned because of their damaging effect on the environment.
Contract
A legal document that states and explains a formal agreement.
Eg. They could take legal action against you if you break (the term of) the contract.
