Synergy
When each form of marketing works together to do something.
A poster, VHS and trailer all working together in synergy to advertise.
Brand Identity
Helps to build brand recognition

Intertextuality
When one media text references another.
E.g. ‘The Simpsons’ referencing ‘Mary Poppins’
Where you buy the tickets for a film
Box Office
The amount of money that the film made from cinema tickets (often for the opening weekend).
Convergence
The merging of mass communication outlets using multiple platforms
E.g. You can watch a film on your phone
Distribution
The 5th stage to film making which involves marketing and releasing the film to cinemas and streaming services.
Production Company
The company who produces the film and handles the budget/finance.
Conglomerate
A conglomerate is a big company which owns a lot of smaller companies.
E.g. Amazon own audible and twitch
Disney own Fox and ABC
Vertical Integration
When a company owns different businesses in the same chain of production and distribution.
E.g. Disney in Deadpool and Wolverine.
Horizontal Integration
When a company buys out a competitor
Disney owns Pixar + profits from them. + have rights to their products
Convention
What the audience expects to see in a particular media text.
Sitcoms - Comedic, ensemble cast, laughtrack +/ live studio audience
Long shot
A camera shot which includes the full body of someone
Mid Shot
A camera shot which captures from the knees up
Two shot
A camera shot with two people in frame
Close up
A close up is zoomed in on a person’s face
Over the shoulder shot
Filmed from over someone’s shoulder, usually during a conversation
Eye-level angle
When the camera angle is level with someone’s eyes
Diegetic sound
Sound heard by both the character and the audience
E.g. On a car radio
Non-diegetic Sound
Sound heard by the audience but not the character
E.g. Theme song
High key lighting
Bright lighting
Low key lighting
Dark lighting
Natural Lighting
Sunlight or room lighting
Mise-en-scene
What is seen/visible inside the frame
E.g. costume, lighting
NOT SOUND
Network
The network oversees the entire production of the show.
E.g. NBC
