The environment, usually the weather,
Reflects the mood of the character or scene

Onomatopoeia
The sounds of words to express their meaning
Sensory imagery “crunch” “pop” “snap”
Alliteration
Repetition of the same sounds usually at the begging of words
E.g. “reuse renew recycle”
Assonance
Repetition of vowels
E.g. “harsh bark” (ar sound)
Rule of three
Repetition in a group of three to strengthen emphasis
E.g. “freedom, equality, justice”
Connotations
Implied meanings suggested by a word rather than its literal meanings
E.g. “the colour red can imply danger or anger”
Hyperbole
Over exaggerating for effect
E.g. “I have hundreds of homework to do”
