Subject, Object, Predicate Flashcards
Subject
the person or thing in the sentence which is doing the action or being described
predicate
Part of the sentence or a clause that tells us what the subject is doing or what the subject is. Got to contain more than a verb
Object
Person or thing in the sentence which is involved in the action of the verb, but isn’t carrying it out. Generally it is the person, place or thing being acted upon by the verb
The woman always drives the car quickly
subject = woman
adverb = always and quickly
verb = drives
object = the car
predicate = always drivers the car quickly
simple predicate
Can be just a single verb or the main verb and it’s auxiliaries
simple predicate example
John runs
John was running
Complete predicate
Is a verb plus all its dependents. Or, everything that isn’t the subject
complete predicate example
john RUNS TOWARD TBE BUS VERY QUICKLY
Compound predicate
Give us two or more details about the same subject and has two or more verbs that are joined by a conjunction

john RUNS TOWARDS THE BUS VERY QUICKLY AND IS CARRYING A BAG
