has to be subj so can´t be que tu gato murió and it has to be either in imp subj (ra, ras, ra, etc.) or present perfect subj (conjugated haber + past participle)
they are translated the same it seems although haya muerto would be has died I think

  • No te preocupes. Puede ser que tu abuelo haya salido un rato. (Don´t worry. Your grandpa may have gone out for awhile. )
