What was the basis of Cohen’s theory?

A

Most youth crime is motivated by a desire to achieve status. Many w/c youths are viewed as having lower status in mainstream society, so they turn to crime as a way of gaining it.

A

W/c parents have a tendency to not value school. Thus,children are socialised to have the same opinion. They’re also taught a restricted language code which leads to poor performance in school
