sonata
A composition for solo instrument (usually piano), or
a composition for a solo instrument accompanied by piano

a solo instrument accompanied by an orchestra
concerto grosso
from the baroque period, a smaller group of solo instruments (concertino) accompanied by a larger orchestra (ripieno)
