Head only

Do you need a firearms license to have a captive bolt gun?
No
Which species is captive bolt used in?
Cows, sheep, horses
NOT pigs
Why is captive bolt not used in pigs?
Severe convulsions
What is the source of energy in a captive bold gun?
Compressed air or cartridges.
Legally all abattoirs have to have a back up slaughter method

Immediate collapse of hind limbs
Rigid body spasm
Immediate loss of rhythmic breathing
Immediate loss of palpebral and corneal reflex
No eyeball rotation
Relaxed jaw
No righting reflex
Convulsive kicking
Where should you shoot a cow?
Draw x between horns and eyes, in the middle of X
Where should you shoot a pig? Just above eye level, middle of head
Where should you shoot a sheep?
Middle of head behind horns, in front of ears
Where should you shoot a horse?
Draw cross between ears and eyes, just above centre of cross
Why should you never use a bolt gun in pigs over 60kg?
Skull bone too thick
