A group of individuals who share a common interest for example, gay rights, gun rights, or animal rights
What do Interst Groups Do?
They try to influence public policy and voter opinions
Key difference between Interest Group and Political Party?
Interest groups promote specific issues like gay rights.
Political parties try to win elections
What is a lobbyist?
A person paid to try to influence how laws are drafted
What is a PAC?
A Political Action Committee. It collects money and donates it to election campaigns.
How does a PAC help an interest group achieve its goals?
They help candidates win elections in exchange for promises of promoting their special interest.
Example: animal rights group gives money to a Democratic candidate who promises to pass laws preventing cruelty to animals
What is Gerrymandering?
When politicians change the boundaries of a voting district to help them win elections
changing the boundaries is also called “redistricting”

What is a Third Party?
Neither the Democratic Party nor the Republican Party

Why do Third Parties matter?
*They raise awarness of issues the other parties aren’t discussing
* Spoil elections by taking away votes from main parties
If people vote for Green party instead of Democrats, Trump could win!
