What is the difference between Storage Gateway and File Gateway?
A
File Gateway: configured S3 buckets accessible using NFS and SMB protocol. Integrated with AD for user authentication. Most recent data is cached in the file gateway. Main use is storing and accessing S3 objects.
Volume Gateway: Block storage using iSCSI protocol backed by S3. “Hybrid cloud block storage with local caching”. There’s cached volumes (low latency access to most recent data) and stored volumes (entire dataset is on prem, with scheduled backups to s3)
