capillary refill
compress patients digit btween physican index and thumb to cause blanching: release pressure and note time to regain color.
normal time is 2 seconds or less
What does capillary refill test?
digital perfusion (aterial occlusion, hypovolumic shock or hypothermia)
edema examination
press for 5 seconds over the dorsum of foot, anterior tiba or behind medial malleolus!
edema ratings
0: absent
1+ barley decteable (slight pittting) 2mm
2+ slight indentation (4mm) 10-15 seconds
3+ deeper indentation (6mm) > 1min
4+ very marked indendation 8mm, 2-5 mins
