Stuff Flashcards
How are living things classified?
They are classified by their features and species.
Why are living things classified?
Classifying things(organisms, objects) into groups make them easier to remember, describe and identity.
What is the Linnaeus system of classification?
King Paul Cried Out For Good Soup
Kingdom,Phylum,Class,Order,Family,Genus, Species
What is a species?
It means a group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding. The species is the principal natural taxonomic unit, ranking below a genus and denoted by a Latin binomial, e.g. Homo sapiens
What is binomial naming of a species?
Binomial nomenclature (also called binominal nomenclature or binary nomenclature) is a formal system of naming species of living things by giving each a name composed of two parts
What is an ecosystem?
What is an ecosystem?
A community of organisms interacting with one another, plus the environment in which they live and interact with.
How do physical surroundings affect an ecosystem?
It affects the animals that live there because over time they have adapted to there habitat and it surroundings, if you were to move the animal to a different place it’s unlikely for the animal to survive.
What are populations?
All the inhabitants of a particular place.
What are two things that flow through a food chain?
Energy and nutrients.
What is photosynthesis?
It how a plant(producer) gets energy from the sun, carbon dioxide and water, and produces sugars and oxygen.
What is the primary source of energy used by all organisms?
The sun
What is the amount of energy that passes from one feeding level to the next in the food chain?
10%
What is a food web?
It’s a system of food chains linking within each other.
How do physical surroundings affect an ecosystem?
It affects the animals that live there because over time they have adapted to there habitat and it surroundings, if you were to move the animal to a different place it’s unlikely for the animal to survive.
What are populations?
