Stuff Flashcards
Class I Rec
Conditions for which there is evidence and/or
general agreement that a given procedure or treatment
is beneficial, useful, and effective.
Class II Rec
Conditions for which there is conflicting
evidence and/or divergence of opinion about the
usefulness/efficacy of a procedure or treatment.
Class IIa
Weight of evidence/opinion is in favor of
usefulness/efficacy
Class IIb
Usefulness/efficacy is less well established
by evidence/opinion.
Class III Rec
Conditions for which there is evidence
and/or general agreement that a procedure/treatment
is not useful/effective and in some cases may be
harmful.

hit
2 types of heparin associated thrombocytopenia: non-immune (HIT Type 1) and immune heparin induced thrombocytopenia (HIT Type 2). HIT Type 1 is associated with mild thrombocytopenia within 2-3 days after starting heparin treatment. Platelet counts less than 100 K/mm3 are rare and the counts recover within days after discontinuation of heparin. HIT Type 2 is caused by antibodies to platelet factor 4 (PF4)/heparin complexes. Binding of the antibody can lead to platelet activation and to tissue factor expression, which is highly prothrombotic. The timeline of HIT Type 2 is broader (4-14 days) unless there has been previous heparin exposure, and thrombocytopenia is usually moderate to severe (commonly <100
